I stopped by Whole Foods Market West Loop on Tuesday 9/6/2022. I usually shop at the Whole Foods closer to where I live, but was in the city, and decided to grab a few items. I was very impressed with the WLP location. The store was very clean, organized, and well-stocked. The employees I interacted with were all smiling and friendly. Maria and Hilda at the customer service desk answered my question, and Paige was a great cashier. I'll definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.
I've been living across the street for 2.5 years and probably spend $500 per month here. When it comes down to it, I'm just too lazy to go to Mariano's even though the selection would be nearly identical. My route around this store has been perfected and I can go door to door in 20 minutes if I really hustle. Some highlights: - Seafood selection is phenomenal - High-end selection of refrigerated Italian-ish food is great, though the pesto costs $19.99/lb - Hot lunch selection is very good - Post-acquisition, there is definitely more data-driven product placement and introduction of new products. - At off-peak hours, the store is efficient Some things I don't like: - the frozen bagels that they bring in are almost always rock hard and moldy right at the printed date - for a very long period of time, the 365 store brand marinara sauce bottles were *impossible* to open. I have 12 in my cupboard if anyone wants to come over and try. - prices for anything related to chicken, including rotisserie chicken, are hilariously awful - employee turnover appears to be extremely high, I don't think I have ever had the same person check me out. - fish quality in the pre-packaged sushi leaves a lot to be desired compared to H-Mart - If you go at the "wrong" time (prior to daily restocking?), the selection of perishable items can be really weak (like, no whole chobani, no blackberries, no bagels, no pre-packaged salmon, no spinach).
